Sundown

Sundown is a meditation on transformation, grief, and loss. Inspired by dementia and climate crisis, the work explores the beauty and fragility of life. It is a custom anamorphic animation designed for The NOW Billboard at 8497 Sunset Boulevardd as part of the West Hollywood Moving Image Media Art Program (MIMA).

Sundown meditates on the cloud as a media technology, indicator of climate breakdown, and queer, mutable body that cannot be defined and is always emergent. In these contrasting conceptions of the cloud, Sundown considers the constancy of transformation and beauty in grief. The animation is an intervention on the Sunset Strip -- a series of clouds and troubled skies shifts over pedestrians and car traffic. Juxtaposed against both commercial architecture and the Los Angeles sky, Sundown is a provocation on our evolving relationships with natural systems and one another in the midst of the growing technosphere.
